Convert Windows UEFI to Legacy without Data Loss

Using UEFI Windows but need to switch to Legacy without the time-consuming OS reinstallation? In this guide, NHV Boot will show you how to convert from UEFI GPT to Legacy MBR instantly while preserving your data. We will explore the principles of both standards and perform safe drive conversion steps using NHV BOOT tools

How to Convert Windows Boot Mode from UEFI to Legacy

Before starting the conversion, it is extremely important to boot into the NHV BOOT WinPE environment using Legacy mode. On the main interface, locate and open Partition Wizard to begin the process

Partition Wizard in NHV BOOT is available on the Desktop or in the PStart menu
Windows is currently in UEFI boot mode
Proceed to delete the EFI partition (FAT32): Right-click on the EFI partition and select Delete
Click Apply to execute the pending operations
Convert GPT to MBR: Right-click on the Disk (left side), select Convert GPT Disk to MBR Disk to change the drive standard
Rebuild MBR: Right-click on the Disk select Rebuild MBR
Right-click on the Windows partition (NTFS) and select Set Active to make it bootable
Result as shown

After deleting the EFI partition, converting the disk to MBR, and Setting Active for the Windows partition, return to the main screen and open Macrium Reflect to rebuild the Windows boot

Macrium Reflect in NHV BOOT is available on the Desktop or in the PStart menu
Select Fix Windows boot problems
Select Windows -> Next
Active Partition: Select the Windows partition, then click Next
Click Finish to proceed with fixing the boot
Boot fix successful. Restart your computer to boot Windows in Legacy mode

When the completion dialog appears, click Yes to restart your computer. Windows has now been successfully converted to Legacy mode and functions normally. This concludes NHV Boot’s guide on converting boot modes without data loss. We wish you success!
